Google has finally released the much awaited Orkut for Android app for Android phones. The app has some really cool features like direct photo uploads, scrap notifications and Orkut friends and phonebook sync.
Direct Photo Uploads To Orkut
Till now you had to first move the photos clicked from your phone to your computer, and then only you could upload them to your Orkut albums. Not any more. With this new Orkut app for Android, you can directly upload photos from your Android Photo Gallery to Orkut albums. To start the upload, first install the Orkut for Android app (see details below), then go to Photo Gallery on your Android phone, and click on “Menu > Share > Orkut”.
Call, Scrap or SMS Your Orkut Friends
You can now add your Orkut friends’ list as a live folder on your Android phone’s home screen. First install Orkut for Android app, then on homescreen, go to “Menu > Add > Folders > Orkut”. Once the live folder is added, you can check your friends’ list even if you are not connected to any network. You can even call, scrap or SMS them with a single click.
Scrap notification
If you get a new scrap on Orkut, you’ll see a notification on your Android phone’s notification bar. Now, just click on it to go directly to scrapbook.
How To Install Orkut App on Your Android Device
To install Orkut for Android app, go to Android Market from your Android phone, then go to social applications and search for the term “Orkut”. Once you find the app, you can install it just like any other app. Note that you need Android version 1.6 or higher to run this app.
